Texas is the largest state in the US situated in the south, right at the Gulf of Mexico. It's also called the "lone-star state " and has a pretty interesting history. First inhabited by several Indian tribes; France, Spain and Mexico claimed it and in the end both Mexico and the US fought for years to get it. It was not until the battle of San Jacinto in 1836 that Texas became a part of the United States. Some things never change and cowboys, boots, beltbuckles and hats in Texas are a few of those things. Especially during the Houston wildlife stock and rodeo you will see a lot of "typical" Texans.
Thanks to it's history, geography and business of offshore industry and computers it has a very mixed culture. The fact that ABS alone has more than 23 different nationalities in the
Houston office is one example.
Texans are generally very friendly and always interested in hearing about The
Netherlands. And they need it, if you hear their ideas about where it is.
HISTORY
First I thought that putting something here about the Texas history would be nice, but why
should I do that, when there are so many sites out there, dedicated only to this subject. Try Texas
events for a very clear timeline.
One of the cities with a lot of history is San Antonio. The most important point of interest: the Alamo. This was the prelude to
the last battle before Texas finally started the final road to joining the United States : The battle of San Jacinto.
