Beer and beer-brewing

When Marco was a student in Newfoundland and figured together with his house-mates that making beer was a lot cheaper than buying it he decided to try it himself. Fortunately you do not have to be very intelligent (figures) or resourceful to make it. You can buy kits in a home-brew store and they don't need any additions. But you can make it as creative as you like.

We just made beer with a kit and some extra stuff like hops and more malt extract. Too bad it will not be ready for the next party because it takes about six weeks. We put in here (actually I did, not Marco)what we did, and after six weeks you may even find a taste-review. If you want to know where to buy kits and all other things you need for making beer and wine in Houston: try DeFalco's on Kuykendahl (and 1960). They're generous with advice and free beer !

Our home brewing experiences

March 13 1999
We put on a Laaglander Dutch Bock Beer. The kit is from a factory in the Netherlands (isn't that a coincidence ?) where we actually bought beer before. For the Dutch people: they're located in Leiden and are called: fabriek van diastatische producten.
You can call them up and order beer, minimum of 6 kits.
We added extra: (besides what's in the kit)
The beer bubbled for about a week. That is more than what we usually had probably thanks to the yeast nutrient. We filled 38 pint bottles and although Marco did not agree I did not think the taste was that great yet. We'll have to wait one more week. Antoine is lucky !
